More about Utrecht Centre for Global Challenges - UGlobe

The Faculties of Law, Economics and Governance together with the Faculty of Humanities have joined forces to draw more focus to their study programmes in the area of international studies. To this end, they have founded the Utrecht Centre for International Studies (UCIS), a focal point for study and teaching of international relations, law and institutions at Utrecht University.

UCIS aims to support and encourage study and research on international issues across the Faculties of Law, Economics and Governance add the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University. Whenever possible, UCIS capitalises on our great strengths in law and conflict studies, examining the international aspects of these fields.

From this collaborative venture, the Master’s degree programmes in Conflict Studies & Human Rights, European Governance, European Law, International Relations and Public International Law will be better attuned to one another in order to enhance the experience of students and to prepare them for their future careers.

UCIS provides its students with a interdisciplinary understanding of the complex international environment, how it was developed, and the global forces that shape its future. We challenge our students to become innovative thinkers and problem-solving decision makers of the future. There is an active student council organising events throughout the year and together with the students, alumni and partners, we support our students with job search strategies by organizing workshops and master classes with experts and practitioners in the field.

Duco Hellema, professor of International Relations, has been appointed as the managing director of UCIS. Brianne McGonigle Leyh, assistant professor of Human Rights, has been appointed as the co-director of UCIS.
